Cast iron restoration. Cleaning rust and seasoning a cast iron skillet

Here's how I cleaned and seasoned an old cast iron pan in about 2 hours using salt and steel wool. What is cast iron and how long have people been using it? What oil should you use and what are the smoking points of different oils? Do I use soap to clean a dirty pan? Drink Up! Home Made Arancello...it's potent stuff!

Drink Up! Home Made Arancello...it's potent stuff!

Be forewarned..this is pretty potent stuff. Here is how to make arancello at home. I've made this at restaurants and now it's time I shared how to do this at home. It definitely has a kick to it but it's great as an after dinner digestif. Zest from 3 or 4 oranges, 375mL pure grain alcohol, 2 cups of water, 1 1/4 cups of sugar for a simple syrup. It takes a minimum of 10 days to macerate the orange zest before finishing the arancello. Then make the simple syrup and let it cool completely, or freeze it. Strain the zest and mix with the simple syrup. This is best when served ice cold from the freezer. You can use lemon zest for limoncello or grapefruit zest for pompelmocello but you have to let the grapefruit macerate for at least 20 days. Affiliate links. Incredible Fudgy Brownies with a Magical Ingredient

It's a stock recipe from King Arthur Flour but I add a special ingredient to make it my own. Actually, I added something else to this batch that didn't work out as I had hoped. Still, they are delicious! Here is the recipe: Fudge Brownies INGREDIENTS: 1 cup all-purpose flour 3/4 cups cocoa powder 1 3/4 cups sugar 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon baking powder 1 tablespoon espresso powder 3 large eggs 1/2 cup butter, melted 1/4 cup vegetable oil 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 3/4 cup chopped walnuts 1/2 cup chocolate chips 1/2 cup white chocolate chips Directions: 1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a 9” x 9” pan 2. Put all of the dry ingredients into a large bowl and mix. Then add the wet ingredients 3. Pour the batter into the greased pan. 4. Bake the brownies for 25 to 30 minutes, or until they're just barely beginning to pull away from the sides of the pan. 5. Remove the brownies from the oven; let them cool completely before cutting. Granola 3 cups rolled oats (not instant) 3 tablespoons packed light brown sugar 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt 1/3 cup honey or maple syrup or a mix of the two 1/4 cup vegetable oil 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/2 cup small-dice dried fruit 1/2 cup coarsely chopped raw or toasted nuts or seeds 1. Preheat the oven to 300°F. 2. Put the oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl and stir well. 3. Put the honey or maple syrup, oil, and vanilla in a small bowl and mix. Pour this over oat mixture and stir until thoroughly coated. 4. Spread the mixture on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes, remove and stir. Continue baking until the granola is light golden brown maybe another 15 minutes or so. 5. Remove from oven and put back into a bowl. Add the remaining ingredients and stir well.
